A solid foundation is important for any building as it determines the superstructure that is going to stand on it; the size, strength and shape. It has to comply and fit with the foundation that it is to sit on once the foundation is set, so is the plan of the building and it cannot be changed. The foundation is designed to support the superstructure it holds in the best most possible way.
No matter how much time, money and effort is put into an unstable foundation, it will still fall, it will never last through the elements. Nothing can be built upon such a foundation because it is destined to fall from the start.
We can have all the good ideas in the world to make something great, but when we do it alone without God, it will fail. We waiver without the solid foundation that He is.
Through our life, we may not know what our superstructure looks like or is supposed to be exactly, but as we grow and stretch in faith and build upon Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone we will not fail, we will not fall, we will be unshakable. How can we expect great things to happen without establishing a true foundation because nothing great can be built on sand. I want my foundation to be set in God because he determines the superstructure that sits on top and with Him as the solid cornerstone, anything is possible and if He is the foundation, any superstructure can stand.
One step further, I don’t see this as building extravagant church buildings on foundations that will hold them, but building the Body of Christ – the church on a firm foundation that is established through God. We as Christians may not know what our superstructure looks like – as we are always growing and stretching in our faith, but if he is not the foundation we don’t have what it takes to withstand the trials of life.
He dwells in His church and will remain the rock and foundation that has already been set.
1 Corinthians 3:11
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
